Toolkit¶
The toolkit in EntryScape Registry is intended for data catalogs following the DCAT-AP specification.
The validation tool is designed to facilitate improving the quality of harvested metadata and provide feedback on six of the main DCAT-AP entities: catalog, dataset, data service, distribution, harvesting source and contact point. The idea is to be able to test the different functions and if you want them to run regularly, add them as a processing step in the harvesting flow (Pipelines) by an administrator.
Please note that the toolkit works with the currently loaded data catalog and nothing else.
Load a catalog source¶
Under "Source" you can load a catalog source with DCAT-AP metadata. You can either upload the catalog as a file, paste a link to it, or paste the markup for the catalog data directly into the large input field. There are two tabs, one for the RDF/XML format and one for RDF/JSON.
If you want to test how the available functionality works without having your own catalog ready, click on the "Load example" tab. This will load a sample catalog for you to test with.
Explore a catalog¶
If you want to see what datasets are in the catalog, you can click on "Explore".
If you click on the information icon for a dataset, a window will appear with more detailed information about that dataset.
Validate the catalog metadata¶
Once you have loaded your catalog, you can click the "Validation results" button at the bottom (or "Validate" in the left menu).
You will then see a summary of the validation results per entity type/class.
If you click on a row for an entity type, errors (red) and warnings (yellow) are listed for the different instances. You can also choose to view all metadata fields by clicking the "Validation report" button.
The fields are then displayed in the same order as they appear in EntryScape Catalog, with any warning icons and errors described under each field.
Merging several catalogs¶
To merge several DCAT-AP catalogs into one, first load the main catalog which you want to merge other catalogs into. Then you can add the other catalogs by clicking the "+ Add" button. Datasets and all other entities (except for the catalog itself) in the other catalogs are then added to the chosen main catalog.
A dialog will appear where you can choose to link to another catalog or upload another catalog as a file. You can add multiple catalogs and merge them at the same time.
Then click the "Merge" button to merge the catalogs.
The merged metadata in the main catalog can then be accessed via the "Source" tab. It can be downloaded from there by clicking the "Download" button at the bottom of the page.
Conversion tool¶
There is also a conversion tool for DCAT-AP metadata, where you can choose whether to convert your metadata catalog to DCAT-AP 2.0 or DCAT-AP 3.0. The table shows what changes this would entail.
